Welcome to One Big World!
One Big World is my personal blog. It is the place where I write thought-provoking essays of general interest spanning a wide range of topics including current affairs, management, technology, science and philosophy. My aim is to provide insightful perspectives and trigger engaging discussions.
A word about myself. I am from the beautiful tropical island of Sri Lanka, and live with my wife and daughter in a rather quiet suburb of Colombo called Malabe.
I’m an specialist in Agile software product development. I’ve led the development of many apps and managed numerous project teams for several leading Colombo-based software companies like Azend Technologies, Calcey Technologies and Virtusa Corporation, since June 1999.
Since my childhood, I’ve always been curious about the world; about how things come to be the way they are, and about how people could live together more harmoniously. I began my journey as a blogger in March 2010 (see Prajnawa, Stories from The Pearl), after having had my curiosity piqued by my father’s deep interest in the nature of consciousness. I got around to reading the leading thinkers on the subject at that time, such as Daniel Dennett, Thomas Metzinger, V.S. Ramachandran, David Chalmers, Steven Pinker and Christoff Koch. Once I got familiar with the territory, I started blogging my own thoughts and insights.
Soon my curiosity began to extend into other areas, driven by current events and encounters with strange minds. I now share my contemplations on diverse topics that include management, technology, education, politics, nature, photography and analytical philosophy.
I’m not a trained scientist or a philosopher, I’m only a concerned global citizen with an intellectual dent. I’d like to contribute towards the increased wellbeing of all conscious creatures (or die trying).
I warmly welcome comments and rational debate on all my reflections.
Happy reading!
